The newly empowered exhibitor is eager to run the cineplexes at the popular shopping malls The Grove in Los Angeles and Americana in Glendale.

AMC Theaters is nearing a deal to operate two high-profile Los Angeles-area movie theaters located in prime outdoor shopping malls. Both The Grove and Americana at Brand feature cinemas that were part of the now defunct Pacific Theatres chain, which owner The Decurion Corporation shut down permanently in April, along with sister chain ArcLight Cinemas.

In recent days, AMC CEO Adam Aron said he was interested in taking over the leases of some Pacific sites. On Monday, The Grove and Glendale complexes appeared as AMC locations on the company’s website and app before disappearing.

AMC didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment regarding its plans for The Grove and Americana. With a box office recovery underway, and all capacity restrictions recently lifted in LA, there’s a huge incentive to reopen the two locations because of the increasing foot traffic in both malls.

Horror Variety will be sure to cover this story as it unfolds.
